about

"Universe All is a producer with a penchant for creating dreamy soundscapes in which to lose track of time, space and place." – Ransom Note

Upfront Support: Spirit Blue, Self and Other, Scratcha (NTS), Remotif (Noods & Fabric), Broken Light (1020 Radio) +

It is indeed the “Flotsam” – the sonic details that pool out along the surface of each rich composition – that marks this EP with its gentle yet beguiling momentum. Often this takes the form of smart sampling, with an isolated vocal or instrumental element given new life by Universe All’s sensitivity to texture and feel. The titular opening track recalls Laraaji in its entrancing repetition, spilling out and expanding luxuriously: a hushed chorus is just discernible in the distance.

“Don’t We?” evokes a space of impossible dimensions, in which fragments of half-forgotten memories bob and float. Layers of voices repeat endlessly, before emerging - briefly crystallised - from their own negative space.

“Mediocean (Night People Mix)” is a recollection of a now-defunct radio show that broadcast in the dead of night. A track that ebbs and eddies, it uses enveloping synths and stilted piano to provide clarity and focus, amidst the obfuscation of rainfall at night.

“Train to Beer (Express Route)” combines a simple, Yoshimura-esque bassline with a layering of pads so incessant that their steadying pressure needs to be siphoned off through angelic gasps, not unlike the delay-laden vocal smudges of Durutti Column’s Eley Rudge.
